Objective: To analyze the correlation between the expression level of microRNA 29b and serum growth stimulation expressed gene 2 (ST2) protein, transforming growth factor beta 1 (TGF beta 1), and Galectin 3 in patients with hypertension. Methods: A total of 105 patients with essential hypertension admitted to the cardiovascular medicine department of our hospital from November 2017 to August 2019 were randomly selected as the study group. According to the different degrees of hypertension, the patients were divided into a grade I hypertension group (33 cases), grade II hypertension group (43 cases), or a grade III hypertension group (29 cases). Thirty-five healthy subjects who underwent physical examination in our hospital at the same period were selected as a control group. The basic data of each group, microRNA 29b expression, serum ST2, TGF beta 1, and Galectin 3 levels, were compared. A Pearson correlation test was used to analyze the correlation between the microRNA 29b expression level and serum ST2, TGF beta 1, and Galectin 3 in patients with hypertension. Results: The diastolic and systolic blood pressure in the study group were significantly higher than those in the control group (P<0.01), while the difference in age and other basic data between the two groups was not statistically significant (P>0.05). Compared with the control group, the microRNA 29b expression level and serum ST2, TGF beta 1, and Galectin 3 levels in the study group were obviously increased (P<0.01). With the increase of hypertension severity, the microRNA 29b expression level and serum ST2, TGF beta 1, and Galectin 3 levels increased markedly (P<0.05). According to a Pearson correlation analysis, the microRNA 29b expression level was significantly positively correlated with serum ST2, TGF beta 1, and Galectin 3 levels (P<0.05). Conclusion: The microRNA 29, ST2, TGF beta 1, and Galectin 3 levels of hypertension patients were significantly increased. Moreover, the microRNA 29 expression level was significantly positively correlated with serum ST2, TGF beta 1, and Galectin 3 levels, which could be used as an important index to judge the condition of patients with hypertension.
